Three generations
Nine spaces, a shoestring, and a long memory.
Michael Howren built the first nine storage spaces on Grassdale Road in 1972. Some of those first customers' grandchildren still rent from us today.
Started in 1972.

In 1972, Michael Howren saw potential in self-storage in a town that didn't have any yet. On a shoestring budget, he built the first nine spaces on Grassdale Road. For years he rented them out from his own house after a long day of work, answering the phone when it rang and meeting customers on the lot after dinner.
Seven years and forty-two spaces later, he bought the property on Highway 411 and started building. He added buildings as the market dictated, not all at once. Climate-controlled spaces came later. So did the U-Haul dealership. So did the move into moving supplies and propane. Each piece showed up when Cartersville needed it.
The community has been so good to us and we strive to give back to the people that have supported us. Through discounts to non-profits, schools, and other community endeavors.
What hasn't changed.

Today there are over 2,000 spaces between the two locations, and the family is still running it, one generation alongside the next.
Some of the families that rented from Michael in the seventies have kids and grandkids renting from us now. People wanted to do business with someone they could find again next year. That has not changed.
My story is one of immense pride. My dad started the business with an entrepreneurial spirit and the confidence and fortitude to go through with it while the outcome was truly unknown and untested in our area. Reaching our fifty-year anniversary and still going is one of the milestones that stand out.
